Cow Springs Standard Station: Temple of Discontent

The Cow Springs gasoline station and trading post is situated on a Navajo reservation. When the post closed it was gutted for recycled materials. Over the decades it has been sledge-hammered into small pieces with muscles fueled by poverty, rage and contempt. This is a meeting place and it has a profoundly spiritual air. It serves as a living canvas for countless painters and graff artists, all with much to say. The background for all of this is a vast desert with ramshackle homes and trailers scattered among the tumbleweed.
